New Beiersdorf Sustainability Report online
Punctual to the Annual General Meeting on April 30, 2009, Beiersdorf published the updated Sustainability Report which provides information regarding its global activities in the areas of sustainable business management, environmental protection, occupational safety, employees, and society.
In order to align these corporate responsibilities even more strategically and efficiently in the future, the Executive Board has adopted a company-wide Sustainability Strategy. The core elements in terms of content are in line with the four cornerstones of the Corporate Strategy, thus ensuring that this theme will be incorporated into all business processes. The Sustainability Advisory Board (SAB), as the central steering committee, is responsible for the implementation of the strategy throughout the company, as well as for the global and cross-segment management of all sustainability activities.
In addition to outlining the strategic framework, the Sustainability Report also provides information about achievements to date and the progress of existing measures. One example in the field of environmental protection is that the company has significantly improved important environmental performance indicators at its production centers: In the reporting period from 2004 to 2008 the energy consumption per production unit (number of products) decreased by 30%, the CO2 emissions by 28% and the water consumption by 28%. Within the scope of its social commitments Beiersdorf focused on the international implementation of MUS-E – the key project in the field of culture. More than 900 students in Germany and France have already benefited from this cultural program organized jointly with the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation. |
